Congratulations, You’re A Racist!

Note: After having had several discussions with friends and colleagues regarding the matter, it really turns out that this was a satirical piece, albeit a poorly written one. I accept your scorn. I’ll still keep it posted, as evidence of me not thinking things out more thoroughly (again). My bad.

Some time ago, my doctor made an observation saying that most of the Chinese people in Hong Kong looked down upon Filipinos in general as inferior people (he had practised in HK for a number of months before moving here in the Philippines).

Of course, every country, every nationality, every collective has its share of douchebags. No one entity is exempt, and its just something we as human beings deal with as a whole everyday. But every now and then, there comes an offender that just creates such a foul offense it’s almost unbelievable in this day and age.

Reasons Why The Philippine Video Rental Industry Is Dying A Slow, Painful Death

The primary reason is that the government simply refuses to enforce laws regarding piracy. That’s it.

Video rental stores are declining because people have very little incentive to rent movies nowadays. Why rent when just (1) for a little more than the rental fee, you can take home your very own (though pirated) copy of whatever movie you want to watch? Why rent when (2) you can download the movie for free off the Internet?

Everything starts at the top.

Manila Bulletin Cartoonists’ Meeting

Let me get this out of the way first: I absolutely do not have the ability to tell Roni Santiago and Norman Isaac apart. Don’t kill me.

First time I’ve attended a the Manila Bulletin’s cartoonist’s meeting. We discussed mostly issues pertaining to the quality of the comics in print, specifically the problems with color, layout, dialog and typography, and some topic-related concerns.

Things Are Slowly Falling Into Place

The virtue of patience is one that I am quite conscious of, but not necessarily capable of applying. Things have been going much more slowly than I would like, but thing have been getting done as well. And that’s a good thing. I’m just taking it day-by-day, and doing as much as I reasonably can.

I’ve finished switching domain names on the two old websites I run to make way for thebreakfastblend.com and shinkaide.com, the new webcomic and my portfolio site, respectively – they are now both active. There’s nothing there yet, though.

For The Breakfast Blend comic, the website design is pretty much finished, and all that’s left for me to do for it is to code and upload. That, and to finish at least two or three comics and some downloadable freebies so that the comic can hit the ground running. It’ll be boring if all TBB has on launch week is one comic and nothing else. Ha!

Can’t say what it is exactly that I want to do with shinkaide.com beyond having a blog and a showcase of my better works there. I might get back into copywriting or do some design work in the future… who knows. All I’m sure of is that it’s good to have a place to call home on the ‘net.

Oh, and I’ll finally be able to give No Need For Kaide a decent minisite, separate from my blog. I have never been happy with mixing in comic posts and personal rants in the same place.

Can’t wait until the weekend is over so I can dive back into work!
