Water Brain

There’s this wonderfully bittersweet steampunk-styled animated short on Vimeo right now called Water Brain done by a Chinese animation collective. It tells the story of children forced to bury themselves in endless homework by monsters in order to power their city. Watch the video below, and then check out the Vimeo page and give the guys who made this some props. Great stuff!

Asus Seamless Experience

Asus has something similar (albeit less cooler-looking, IMHO) to Microsoft’s Surface up it’s sleeve. Check it out:

The real-life contextual information pop-outs for hot beverages are its main selling points, of course. But then again, that’s just me.

Toycon, Among Other Things This Week

Toycon takes place starting today up until tomorrow at the SM Megamall Megatrade Hall. I was thinking of dropping by to say hello to some of the fellow comic artists and grab a couple of comic books, but I’m currently unwell, so I’ll be staying home instead to try and heal up.

For those who are unable to go as well, Azrael has a livestream of the Toycon which you can view here.

Work has been going at a snail’s pace this week, as I’ve had to get things done while experiencing flu-like symptoms. No fever, coughing, or colds, just a lot of lethargy and the occasional headache and sore throat that tend to appear and disappear every now and then. When I’m down I just try to write comic scripts. When I feel well enough to go out, I try to find the bartending tools that have eluded me so far.

While going through the kitchenware section of Rustan’s, I was able to get a portable milk steamer, which set off the whole bartending tools splurge fest for me. I only need to find tempered shot glasses and a decent bar thermometer and I’m set. The problem is I’ve been to just about every place in the Ayala Center area and I just can’t seem to find ‘em.

The longer I have to wait to be able to concoct decent home-made cappuccinos, the antsier I get.

Tornados In The Philippines

So now we have tornados, too? Apparently so.

It’s not like it’s the first time we’ve been hit by tornadoes; it’s simply only now that authorities have decided to upgrade occurrences from “one-off-freak-weather-induced” to “this-might-happen-again-so-what-do-we-do?”. PAG-ASA now seems to get the hints Earth has been dropping for a while (in the form of houses being converted into flying debris) and has finally decided to equip itself with the proper instruments that will enable them to stay on top of these new developments in our local weather profile.

So far, we haven’t been hit with a really massive tornado yet; at least not one on the scale of those that hit the U.S. Still, one can only hope for flying cows that land in your front yard (how many steaks can you make from one cow?).

The weather just keeps getting crazier. Just the other day, while walking around the Makati CBD around Ayala Avenue, there was horizontal rain, the wind was blowing really hard, and the sun was up high and shining. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
